AI slop story

WOW - AI will write a story

Fired up OLLAMA locally and told it to use Qwen3.5:9b-qa_K_M and prompted it with:

Tell me a sci-fi story

The main character is Bob - a mercenary The world is Gerby, a frozen, windswept planet - infested with Republic soldiers. He limps from his crashed shuttle and recoups and reconnoiters with the satellite he left in orbit The crux of the story is he has to assassinate "Byggt," the leader of the republic troops - if he fails and survives, they will send him back to stasis prison for the balance of his 250-year sentence. He did not know if he could survive the nothingness of stasis again.... climax would be he assonates "Byggt", and his chief aid, his chief aid is caught in the crossfire - The aid Smitt was the real power in the republic - so now everything has changed - but for the better?

Thought for 57.4 seconds

The user wants me to write a sci-fi story with specific elements:

  • Main character: Bob, a mercenary
  • Setting: Gerby - a frozen, windswept planet with Republic soldiers
  • Bob's situation: Crashed shuttle, limping back, has a satellite for recon
  • Plot: Bob must assassinate "Byggt", leader of Republic troops
  • Stakes: If he fails, he'll be sent back to stasis prison for 250-year sentence
  • Climax: Bob assassinates Byggt, but his chief aid Smitt is caught in crossfire
  • Ending: Smitt was the real power, now everything changed but "for the better?"

This is a creative writing task. I don't need to search for web information - I should write an original sci-fi story based on these specifications. Let me craft a compelling narrative with all these elements.

========= THE STORY ========================

Frozen Vigil

The shuttle's hull groaned against the Gerby ice as Bob stumbled out onto the frozen tundra. Every step sent pain through his left leg—the bullet from the Republic ambush three days ago had shattered the bone. He barely felt it anymore. His body had grown numb to suffering.

Bob checked the comms unit embedded in his wrist. "Satellite Uplink active. Signal: Stable."

He tapped in. The screen flickered to life, displaying a schematic of Gerby—the frozen wasteland Republic forces called home. Snowdrifts towered like ghostly sentinels. The wind screamed across the surface, carving through armor and skin alike.

Byggt. The Republic leader. The man who held his fate in his hands.

Bob's mission was simple: Kill Byggt or return to stasis prison. But as he looked at the satellite's live feed of the Republic stronghold, he hesitated. He'd done this before. He knew what happened when you failed. The stasis chamber would freeze him solid again. His 250-year sentence would stretch to eternity.

He activated his cloaking device, fading into the snowdrifts.

Bob moved with purpose, his limp barely audible. The satellite's thermal imaging revealed movement patterns—troops patrolling, supply routes, defensive positions. He had the intel. The Republic was weak, not the way they wanted people to think.

Hours turned into the night. Bob's breathing grew shallow, but his focus sharpened. He reached the stronghold perimeter.

The comms crackled. "You're being watched, Bob."

Bob stopped, his fingers hovering over his rifle. He knew he had seconds before they realized he was there. He engaged his thermal signature dampener. The Republic couldn't see him—not yet.

He approached the main entrance. Byggt's office was on the top floor. Bob knew the tactical plan. He had watched them for weeks. The Republic's leadership was fragmented—there was tension between Byggt and his aides. That tension would be his weapon.

Bob infiltrated the stronghold. His rifle was heavy in his hand. He could feel the cold seeping through his armor. The wind outside howled like a living thing.

When he reached the top floor, he saw them—Byggt and Smitt, his chief aide. Smitt's face was familiar from Bob's prison memories. He'd studied Smitt's behavior from the satellite. Something about him was different.

"You don't belong here," Byggt said, standing with his back to Bob. "Bob. You're too late."

Bob's finger tightened on the trigger. He had no choice.

But then—bang!

A shot rang out from Smitt's side.

Bob's rifle fired. Byggt's chest was open, blood spurting onto the cold marble. Byggt fell.

Bob looked up. "Smitt?"

Smitt stood there, his face twisted in shock. He'd been hit in the arm. The wound gaped open, but he was still standing.

"Bob. Don't move."

Bob's hand shook. "You're the real leader, aren't you?"

Smitt nodded, his voice steady despite the blood loss. "I am. Byggt was just the figurehead. The Republic doesn't believe in mercy. Not for anyone. Not even us."

Bob's mind raced. If Smitt had wanted him dead, he could have ordered the ambush to happen. He'd survived because Smitt needed him alive for the mission.

"You're the one who's been running everything."

"Yes," Smitt said. "And now... now everything has changed."

Bob looked at Smitt's wounded arm. The Republic's real power was gone. The Republic would now need Bob. They would need him alive.

"You could have killed me."

"Yes. I could have. But then I'd be alone."

Bob lowered his rifle. "This isn't over."

"No," Smitt said, his voice soft. "But it's our chance to be better. To be more than what they told us to be."

The satellite hummed overhead. The wind outside howled. Bob looked at Smitt. He looked at Byggt's fallen body.

The Republic's power structure had changed. Smitt was now free to lead, to rebuild. Bob had one more choice. He could leave. He could disappear. Or he could help.

Bob holstered his rifle. "I'm staying."

Smitt nodded, a sad smile on his face. "We'll need every hand."

Bob's leg screamed in pain, but he barely felt it. The cold had seeped into his bones. The 250-year sentence was gone. He was free.

Gerby's frozen landscape stretched out before them. The Republic was no longer a prison. It was a place of possibility.

"First things first," Smitt said. "We need to find the prisoners. Free them. This war has gone on long enough."

Bob nodded. He'd survived the nothingness of stasis. He'd faced the frozen wasteland. He'd faced the Republic's leader. And now, he was ready to rebuild.

Bob stood up. His leg burned, but he didn't flinch. The cold wind howled, but he was no longer alone.

Smitt was the real power. And now, the Republic was theirs.

The End????

What do you think - I will have to play around a little - next step is an audio book over an AI picture

Weather station project built with AI-assisted coding.

It’s definitely been done before, but this version has the twist that much of it is designed and developed with AI tools. With all this AI capability available now, I figured I’d channel it into a fun little project. The plan is a 3D-printed weather station featuring: Wind vane Anemometer Temperature/humidity sensors Altitude sensing GPS for location and time Rain gauge An ESP32 running on battery power will collect sensor data and transmit it indoors using ESP-NOW. It will also log readings locally to an SD card for backup and history. Inside, a Cheap Yellow Display (CYD) will show live weather conditions. The data can also be rebroadcast over Wi-Fi via MQTT to Home Assistant and other dashboards. I may even add a second CYD in the living room as a dedicated display. Should keep me busy—and out of mischief—for a while. Since I am using free AI's, I will break the project up into small pieces to stay inside the free restrictions A Claude project started (the outs...
